Defining Moments in History
Course Description
The purpose of this course is to engage students in research and project based learning while examining some of the most famous and most controversial historical topics.This class will be a capstone class for students in the social studies department. Skills that will be stressed include writing, research, thesis creation, text analyzing, study skills, and note taking skills. Classroom instruction will be dominated by seminar type instruction with class and problem based discussion being the favored mode of instruction.
Assessments
1) Each student will be expected to choose 4 topics from the list below (2 per 9-weeks) and complete the following for each:
A) Personal research of your topic
B) Presentation to the class utilizing PowerPoint or other multimedia tools
C) Planning and creation of a tangible representation of your topic
D) Various other group projects
2) An essay and objective test covering each topic presented by the class.
3) The Final Exam will consist of a project planned by the class and/or a comprehensive final essay exam.
4) Completion of two novel analyses and accompanying tests.
